Xinjiang railway's coal shipments up 14.3% YoY to 64.96 Mt as of Jun 8 Inland Shipment,  Thermal Coal 2024-06-12 13:42:44

Xinjiang railway, operated by the China Railway (CR) Urumqi Group, shipped 64.96 million tonnes of coal in the year to June 8, rising 14.3% on the year, People's Daily reported, citing the CR Urumqi Group.

Xinjiang railway totally handled over 100 million tonnes of cargoes during the same period, reaching 100.4 million tonnes, which represented a year-on-year increase of 7.4%, the group noted.

The railway signed rail transport agreements with 31 coal-consuming enterprises for a total volume of 178 million tonnes, climbing 10.9% from a year ago. This move targeted to achieve a precise match between shipping capacity and consumers' demand via reciprocal agreements during peak and slack seasons.

CR Urumqi Group strived to reduce logistic costs by logistics turnkey projects, saving customers over 10 million yuan, said Liu Yang, deputy director of the freight department of the group. There were 11 customers employing logistics turnkey projects, higher than two at the beginning of the year.

CR Urumqi Group actively coordinated with counterparts to prompt outbound coal shipments with high loading efficiency. 36.97 million tonnes of coal were delivered to other provinces and regions as of June 8, 51.1% higher than the year-ago level, said Li Hai, deputy director of the planning and dispatching office of the group.

Daily coal shipments to Gansu, Sichuan, Chongqing, Yunnan, Guizhou and Qinghai reached 223,000 tonnes, covering the needs of enterprises' production and thermal coal transportation, he added.

While ensuring the transportation of coal, metal ore and fertilizer, Xinjiang railway also made efforts to expand the shipping capacity in southern Xinjiang.

It opened two rail lines from Korla city in Xinjiang to Wuhu in Anhui and from Aksu city to Sanshui in Guangdong, which benefited rural revitalization and further accelerated trade between southern Xinjiang and the Yangtze River Delta and the Pearl River Delta regions.
